Seeking Nourishment
by Eliza Camire

Tiny hands
feet.
face.
Big brown eyes-
full of
imagination
anticipation for life.
she wanted to grow tall
from acorn to tree-
change the world-
write a novel-
but now she lies naked with him.

and he is not good for her.
this is not good for her.
But it feels So Damn Good to her.
and she is not caught in his lies
this time.
He makes no promises.
He says he wants to fuck her
not lover her.
he says her skin is soft and
her breasts perfect
and her stomach churns turns
inside out.
she is finding out what it means to be
mortal
immoral.

and now her roots start to pull-
seeking nourishment-
seeking
speaking to him at night makes her think sometimes
that there is love-
but she is not sure.

at least not in his bed.
she is a skeptic
with an eclectic taste for assholes-

but when she was 4 feet tall and beaming with potential
words like
casual sex the cause the effects
didn't mean much
pre touch
taste
lick.
Penetration is now the cause of her poetic voice.

Now her roots start to pull her
to that place again.
hand in hand with her father
nature walks and simple talks now seem so
distant
in an instant
she grew taller
older
now
she lies naked with the new him-
sweat and skin
soft kisses and
those hard thoughts.

I hope this tree is strong.
